Further Aspects of Christian Marriage.

Because of the Fall, there are no perfect people, with the exception, of Jesus. It therefore follows that there are no perfect marriages. And this means that the Bible template is very hard to implement.

If a wife is not feeling loved by her husband, she cannot submit to him.

For any form of submission, the wife needs to feel secure and put 1st by her husband; even so, people’s personalities and dynamics vary tremendously, and for some marriages, the husband is loving and supportive and likes his wife to take the lead.

Husbands love your wives,  just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5.25.

The most important thing is for the couple to serve one another, putting each other 1st.

In humility, valuing others above yourself, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others. Philippians 2: 3b-4.

And because of the Fall, words of apology, and of love and forgiveness, need to be on the couple’s lips every day, as we bruise one another emotionally, when in close- proximity.

Because love languages may be very different for each, the couple need to relate to one another according to how they each experience feeling loved.

The only thing that counts is faith, expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:5

Of these 3 remain, faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13.

In April I will address "Working with Psychodynamic Aspects in Couple Counselling" as my next blog post.
